Label HU - Handling Unit

Introduction

A Handling Unit (HU) is a manipulation unit or logistics container (e.g. a pallet or equivalent transport unit) that groups a set of individual packages. The HU label uniquely identifies that unit and allows the entire set of packages to be treated as a single entity for traceability, movement, and storage within the logistics operation.

Purpose / Benefits

  • Enables tracking and moving the entire set with a single scan.
  • Speeds up loading/unloading and internal transfers.
  • Preserves cargo integrity and optimizes storage.

Key Label Elements

  • HU id
  • Scannable QR
  • Container id (printed below the QR)
  • Generation date, origin routing / route, and weight range
  • Iconography (weight, air, MASTER) and branding

Minimum QR Content

The QR encodes a simple JSON at minimum:
