Label Mercado Envios

Introduction

Problem

Due to the different types of logistics operated by Mercado Envios (such as Fulfillment and CrossDocking), it is possible that from origin A to destination B, the services of multiple carriers may be requested. This implies:

  • Label reprinting on the carrier's side.
  • Additional time and costs added to the package delivery process.

Solution

To avoid label reprinting, a standard Mercado Envios label was designed that all carriers in all countries can interpret. The goal is to standardize, streamline and optimize the label printing and reading processes for all parties involved, and to scale to future new shipping modalities.

Design - Composition

The following sections describe the informational elements that make up the label, as well as the module-based layout.

Carrier-relevant data:

  • Shipment ID: unique identifier of the shipment used by Mercado Libre.
  • Barcode Ship.ID: barcode for scanning the Shipment ID.
  • Carrier name: legal name of the postal carrier.
  • Recipient name and nickname: name of the person who will receive the package and their Mercado Libre nickname or username.
  • Carrier custom data: data (and display format) for exclusive use by the carrier, provided to us at the time of authorization (e.g., tracking number, delivery promise data, routing information, etc.). This section is 100% customizable by the carrier.
  • Shipping address: address of the person who will receive the package.
  • Shipping reference: relevant delivery information related to the buyer's address.
  • Sender: seller or sender information (Name*, ID).
  • Seller/facility origin address: origin address of the package. If the shipment originates from a Mercado Libre facility (Fulfillment or CrossDocking), the address will be the facility's; otherwise, it will be the seller's address.

* The seller's name will appear depending on the legislation of each country.

Mercado Libre data:

  • Mercado Libre logo.
  • Sale number: unique identifier of the sale made on Mercado Libre.
  • Routing data: Mercado Libre logistics-related information.
  • QR: contains the Shipment ID and may include additional information required by the carrier.
  • Service type: identifier of the service type used, related to delivery time and experience.

All of this data is processed internally by Mercado Libre and then printed on the label. The carrier must be able to read the label whenever necessary.
